London

It's not a secret that London holds a special place in my heart. I desire to call it home someday, but until then, I'll continue to track flights for my next adventure across the pond.

London is an incredible city with a myriad of things to see and do. So, I decided to put together a list of some of my favorite sights and activities. Let's get started.

If it is your first time in London, I recommend taking a hop-on hop-off tour bus. You'll be able to see all of the city while learning about its history and some fun facts. You'll also need an Oyster pass for taking the underground while you're in the city.

Once you've enjoyed your ride, head to the London Eye. I recommend buying tickets in advance, so you have a guaranteed spot. The massive Ferris wheel takes about half an hour to complete its cycle. However, the views are marvelous, making it feel like 5 minutes. Afterward, cross Westminster Bridge to see Elizabeth Tower, lovely nicknamed Big Ben. From Parliament Square Garden, you'll be able to see the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the Sir Winston Churchill Statue, and much more. It is worth mentioning there is a public toilet by Westminster Abbey, but it will cost you a couple of pence.

From here, head west toward Buckingham Palace. The Changing of the Guard takes place at 11 AM and lasts for about 45 minutes. Take a stroll through Buckingham Palace Gardens and Green Park. Once you've made your way through these two parks, cross over to Harrods. Pick up some food, chocolates, teas, and maybe a pair of Jimmy Choos. Hyde Park is a short walk from Harrods. Depending on the weather, this is a perfect spot for a picnic and petting some pups. You may even see some older gentlemen race their electric sailboats. At the edge of Hyde Park, you'll see Kensington Palace and its gardens.

Now that you have conquered London's great parks and palaces head back east. Here you will find the vibrant Trafalgar Square. In the center of the square is Nelson Column, which is surrounded by larger-than-life bronze lions and two grand fountains. The National Gallery, home to over 2,300 paintings, is located on the square.

If you are a fan of bright lights and fame, London's West End district, which encompasses Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, needs to be on your itinerary. Piccadilly Circus is similar to Times Square. You will see large neon billboards displaying advertisements. Grab a drink, find a seat on the base of the fountain, and soak up the action taking place around you. After you've finished your beverage, walk down to Leicester Square. You can visit the M&M store, the world's largest Lego store, and endless theaters.

Though it's a bit of a trek, walking from Big Ben to Tower Bridge is essential. During your journey, you should cross the Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern Museum. Next door is Shakespeare's Globe Theater. If you have the time, check out a local show. As you continue your hike, you will witness the Shakespeare mural and the Golden Hinde, a replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship that circumnavigated the globe. The final significant landmarks you will see are The Shard and City Hall. When you are parallel with City Hall, grab a quick photo with the bridge. As you cross the bridge, you can't help but marvel at its incredible architecture and beauty. On the other side, you'll find the Tower of London. While a bit pricey, it is worth it as you'll be transported back in time. The Tower of London is the home of the Crown Jewels and iconic Beefeaters.

Further out from the city center, are Camden Market, Notting Hill, and Portobello Road Market. All three locations deserve to be on your itinerary. Camden Market is a collection of fresh produce, unique shops, an open-air food hall, a cereal restaurant, and speakeasy bars. Notting Hill is full of colorful houses, which makes for some Instagram-worthy photos. If you're looking for a unique gift for someone or yourself, Portobello Market is the place, as individual pop-up shops line the street.

Lastly, grab a coffee from Pret A Manger, enjoy fish and chips from a local pub, and of course, snag a photo with an iconic red photo booth.

While there are numerous activities to be enjoyed in London, I hope this post has served as a valuable starting place in your trip preparation.
